Why is bose overrated

There are many different speaker brands out there for us to deliberate upon and choose our favourite. One of the most well known and highly regarded brands is undoubtedly Bose, who have a massive marketshare in both the speaker market but also the headphone market too. Or can you get the same experience for a cheaper price with another brand?

The correct answer is that Bose speakers are definitely worth the money — but only for certain products. This is, of course, all going to be opinion from working with speakers for years and owning many different sets, including the Bose brand. Those little cubes simply aren't capable of producing a full spectrum of sound. This is true of a lot of speakers. Bose would be a perfectly fine alternative if they cost a fraction of what they do now. As they are priced their performance is no where comparable to a long list of great speaker manufacturers.

Strangely, they do spend a good amount of money on research. However, their speaker designs haven't changed much in 30 years. That begs the question, why are they spending so much on research? Bose does a fabulous job marketing their name. Most peole aren't aware of their inferiority and can only go off what they've heard in ads.

As a result, the majority of people are under the mistaken impression that Bose makes good gear. By putting that name on the speakers in the car, the auto manufacturers get to piggyback on that advertising expenditure. Very few luxury car buyers have probably ever heard of Dynaudio and the like.

Bose doesn't suck, it's just not worth the price. It's just not as good compared to what you can get in the same price range. If your friend just wants to buy a stereo and be done with it without doing his research and comparing his options, then I'm sure Bose will work just fine for him, as people who do that generally won't be discerning enough to pick out their system's faults unless they are glaring. There's always that silly FAQ thing, too I have some bose speakers in my HT 4 of the 7 units.

It is a fairly small room though. Edits in [This message was edited by 2ooL on March 04, at Marketing research maybe???? Indeed, Bose has a large and highly-trained scientific research staff. However, it seems that relatively little of this research filters down to their everyday speakers their basic speaker designs have remained largely unchanged for many years. This rather surprising conclusion is supported by comparisons with other industries.

For example, Budweiser and MacDonalds also have large and highly-trained scientific research staffs, and yet continue to produce the same products year after year. In essence, most of the research is for purposes of hedging their bets and flexibility if the marketplace demands change, the corporation will have the research results in hand to react quickly.

In the case of Bose, the research budget is still small compared to the marketing budget. Furthermore, the research makes good PR, and in fact justifies one of their well known marketing slogans "Better Sound Through Research.

If i used emoticons, this would be a great place for rollseyes. That being said, Bose does suck. That junk box would distort just like that Sanyo junker I have in my bathroom. Classical and jazz music even sounds good on AM radio for christ's sakes.

The reason they showcased that lifestyle thing with those music styles is because the bass is much softer and less stressful. It relies on higher "airy" tones to give it that fuller sound. Even the demo disc they had at Futureshop for that thing was full of classical music. Classical instruments test a systems frequency response like no other gender of music.

The fact is, that in most cases the lowest lows are there but cheap equipment cannot reproduce sounds that low or high in the spectrum with much, if any accuracy. It is probably fair to say that it doesn't focus on heavy, garish thumping like rap or rock, but you're very likely to find low tones in classical. The lowest any musical instrument of which I'm aware can go is a pipe organ with a 16Hz note.

I mean that's the biggest part of it, but what really gets people peeved off about Bose is the dishonest way they market thier products. Go to any electronics store that sells Bose and you'll notice that Bose equipment is never hooked up to the same demo unit as all the other speakers. Bose does things this way because they don't want people doing cross comparison between their products and other brands.

Bose displays are usually a decent distance away from any other equipment in the same price range because that other equipment would probably blow it away. Also all their parts use proprietary connectors. You have to buy a Bose speaker cable if your dog chews your current one up. You can't just run to Home Depot and buy generic speaker wire because the terminations are different.

I think the biggest complaint as to their marketing is that they use misleading tactics such as the aforementioned segregated displays, and they use made-up marketing double-speak terms that sound impressive in lieu of the pertinent specs. Is Bose overrated? Is there anything better than Bose? Is Bose owned by Apple? What is the best Bluetooth speaker of ? Is Harman Kardon better than Bose? Which speaker has the best sound quality? Which company is best for sound? Who are the best speakers of all time?

What is the loudest Bluetooth speaker on the market? I'll sell you my old soap box, or loan you one. Does the term, "Basty Nastard," come to mind? Like I tell the other guys, I kinda got left in the dust over the last few years, since I've joined AD I've been playing catchup.

Fun but frustrating. Why thank you there codydog! Just what I needed! A fine british tradition which we yanks have been remiss in not retaining! I'll be aD's Andy Rooney!

I bought a Bose system 10 years ago, sold it 3 years ago after I began doing some research about speakers. They are so overpriced and sound crappy, IMO. I ended up getting a system from av Sorry if it's a bother, but i'm kinda curious 'cause they got a lot of good choices Halen , Jun 8, They packaged them together and I got a better deal.

After looking at their home page, I called them and they told me about the package deal, which was not on their site. I am very happy with them. Now they have newer packages. Halen , Jun 13, Halen , Jun 14, Halen, that is a great read.
